Indications

Everolimus 5 mg is intended for the treatment of certain kind of non-malignant brain tumor in patients with tuberous sclerosis complex. It acts by impeding the growth of cancer cells.

Take this drug orally (generally once a day). Always take the drug with or without meal.

Avoid swallowing the pill. The medication must be dissolved in water. If another person is helping you prepare this drug, he/she must wear gloves while preparing each dosage to avert possible contact with the medication.

Never take more than 10 mg at once. You may use an oral syringe or a measuring glass (read the drug leaflet carefully). If you choose the first option, place the drug into a 10-ml syringe. Avoid breaking or crushing the pill. Pour 1 tsp (5 ml) of water into the syringe. Place the syringe into a container for a few minutes to dissolve the medication. Gently swirl the syringe five times before taking the drug. Always make sure you have taken the whole dose.

Don’t eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice during the treatment, as this fruit can enhance the risk of adverse effects. If you have any questions, consult your doctor.

As this drug can be absorbed through the lungs and skin (and therefore harm a fetus), pregnant women shouldn’t contact with this medication.

Adverse effects of Everolimus 5 mg

Loose bowels, sickness and vomiting, lack of appetite, weight loss, taste disorder, nasal bleeding, skin dryness, vertigo, and head pain may happen. If any of the above-mentioned adverse effects maintain or get worse, contact your physician at once.

Pain or ulceration in the mouth may happen as well. Be careful while brushing your teeth and don’t use alcohol-containing mouthwash. Rinse your mouth often with cool water mixed with salt or baking soda. Try to eat only soft meals.

The treatment with Everolimus 5 mg may cause temporary alopecia. However, your hair growth will normalize after the end of therapy. This drug may reduce your ability to deal with infections. This can make you vulnerable to a severe (rarely lethal) infection or exacerbate any existent infection. Contact your doctor immediately if you have any symptoms of infection (including fever, shivering, constant pain in the throat and cold).

This medication has caused severe (rarely fatal) lung disorders. Seek medical assistance at once if you notice symptoms of lung diseases (for example, panting or breast pain).
