Directions

Taxotere 160 mg is intended for the treatment of different kinds of cancer, such as breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), prostate cancer, gastric cancer, brain cancer. The medication was approved by FDA for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer in the late 90s. In the early 2000s, Food and Drug Administration approved the medication for the therapy of prostate and breast cancer, and then head, stomach and neck.

In people suffering from breast cancer, Taxotere 160 mg is used only if the previous chemotherapy wasn’t successful. In addition, Taxotere is also used in the form of adjuvant therapy (a substance that helps another or changes the action of other drugs) for people with operable node-positive breast cancer (i.e. the breast cancer has spread to the lymph nodes) along with cyclophosphamide and doxorubicin.

Mechanism of action

As well as the other chemotherapy medications, Taxotere acts by preventing cancer cells from dividing and replicating. The healthy cells don’t divide when they are around the normal cells. Nevertheless, the cancer cells get destroyed. They aren’t able to divide. In this way, cancer keeps spreading. Chemotherapy medications (such as Taxotere) attack the sick cells, so the cancer can’t replicate and spread anymore.

Together with the other chemotherapy medication called Paclitaxel, Taxotere falls within a specific group of drugs called “taxanes”. Taxanes consist of plant alkaloids. In particularly, Taxotere is contained in the bark of the Pacific Yew tree. It acts by destroying the microtubules inside the cancer cells (which are required for cell fission and replication). When the cells are unable to divide, they get destroyed.

Alopecia caused by the use of Taxotere 160 mg

We all know that chemotherapy leads to the hair loss. However, in about half a year after the end of treatment, your hair may be fully restored. Alopecia caused by chemo belongs to the most unpleasant adverse effects of therapy. According to the studies, it directly affects the life quality of the patient. Constant hair loss can be destructive.

Modern researches demonstrate that Taxotere can lead to the irreversible baldness. The treatment affects even brows, eyelashes and body hair.

Annually around the world, about 800 thousand new cases of stomach cancer are diagnosed, which ranks second in the structure of mortality due to oncological pathology. In most patients, gastric cancer is diagnosed too late, and the estimated life expectancy of such patients from the time of diagnosis is no more than 6-9 months.

The 39th annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) presented the intermediate phase III phase analysis of a large-scale international study of the effectiveness of chemotherapy with the use of the drug Taxotere (docetaxel) for the treatment of patients with gastric cancer in advanced stages of the disease. The results of a clinical study of the effectiveness of Taxotere in the treatment of patients in this category indicate an improvement in the survival of patients.
